I'm not Lewis Hamilton, but if I was in his position I would start to wonder "what do I have to do to win sports personality of the year award"
Bloody Damon Hill won in 1996 in an OLYMPIC year and he beat Sir Steve Redgrave. So clearly the British public have got something against Hamilton.
He should represent Grenada instead of Britain since he has carribean roots. What do you think? |

What do YOU think is the best car of all time? (No super cars, only cars under £30,000)
Please dont start saying stupid things, say cars that you might be able to afford as a family man on the 9-5 not a 15yr old who thinks he's damon hill with a tenner that'll buy him anything in the world!
Thanks |

I think it was Damon Hill the last UK world Champion. (Someone correct me if I am wrong.) It is nice to know we are good at something anyway, and even if he finishes second in the Championship he has done brilliantly for a rookie. |

To give you ideas:
Mike Hawthorn
Phil Hill
Denny Hulme
Jody Scheckter
Keke Rosberg
Nigel Mansell
Damon Hill
Jacques Villeneuve.
Tim F needs to check his facts if he thinks that none of the above won their titles by lucking out in a superior car...
And whoever said Fittipaldi obviously wasn't around at the time...and I think we can rule out multiple champions in any case.
I'm with you for Schumi not deserving the 1994 title, but that's not the question I asked... |

Yeh, yeh, I know he's a legend and damn good. But he's also a spoilt brat bully - I hate the the way he just knocks people off the track if he thinks he is not going to win fair and square. Remember all the Damon Hill incidents?
Whoops, I think I got that a bit wrong - I meant does anyone else not want Schuey to win! |

Do you ever receive errors known as Daemon's on your computer?
Either from something you are trying to do on it but it's not able to and gives up or getting a virus on the system or from an email it's unable to send.
Anyway, I simply want to ask:
Hows do you pronounce "Daemon"?
Is it Damon, as in Damon Hill or Damon Albarn?
Or Demon, as in Demon Tweeks?
Always been curious about the pronounciation of that word! |

alonso or schumi?
here are some points I'd like to consider:
SCHUMACHER:
1. Bumped Damon Hill in last deciding race, while he was TRAILING in points, meaning why would he end his race and damon's when he knew he was still going to lose?
2. Same issue with villeneuve, I really dont know why he got disqualified after the incident. He was also trailing in points at that time.
3. Dirty driver, almost bumps cars when he overtakes.
ALONSO:
1. Criticized by Coulthard(as a mclaren driver) when he stepped on the breaks earlier, causing coulthard to crash.
2. "Blackmailer". He enjoys standing in the podium while his team pays $100m
3. Dirty driver? Lewis says he was deliberately pushed aside during the start of the Belgian Grand Prix. |

I think Jenson is a good driver but is seriously overated.
I sometimes wonder if he'll ever win a race, let alone a championship.
Look at Damon Hill - I was a fan in the mid 90's, but he wasn't that dominating was he - "Almost won" so many times before finally succeeding with the 1996 Championship.
Mansell was the last decent driver we had to consistently win races and challenge for championships!!!
Has F1 got boring? |

I recently attended a Dunlop Driving Event at Thruxton, receiving tuition from British GT and Le Mans driver Calum Lockie. I jokingly asked him if he knew who the curret Stig was. With no hesitation he confirmed what I have suspected for some time ie that the current Stig is racing driver Ben Collins, who has appeared as himself in several episodes of Top Gear (Downhill Skateboarder, Parachuting into a Convertible to name two) http://www.collinsautosport.com/
Calum also pointed out that many of the Power Laps are done by manufacturers' own test drivers dressed as the Stig, to minimise damage to their rather expensive bits of kit, and to give them the best possible chance of posting a fast time in the hands of someone highly familiar with the car's driving characteristics.
You can also find Ben Collins named in the HSE report into Richard Hammond's dragster crash, where he is described as working "closely with Top Gear as a high performance driver and consultant". While this is not incontrovertible proof, it does back up Lockie's statement.
I'm sure there will be a host of naysayers popping up to denounce this post, some claiming Julian Bailey (plausible) or Damon Hill (yeah, right!) and a miriad other candidates, but having suspected Ben Collins for some time and to have it confirmed by another current racing driver (they're quite a cliquey bunch you know) I am confident that I will, at some future juncture, be vindicated. |

Why are the UK roads so full of OLD CR@PPY Drivers, i mean they have a delayed sense of reaction, drive at a snail's pace, ALWAYS cut you up on roundabouts and CUT corners thinking they're the next Damon Hill...

Ok, as mush as I rarely see eye to eye with Nani_F1 over the Alonso/Hamilton thing, I do agree with her on this..........Everyone raving on about Hamilton is making it a little bit dull.
So to lighten the mood I want to know this............
Who is your favourite driver and what do you think their best drive was?
Mine was Damon Hill in the 1997 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Hill left Williams as world champ and signed for Arrows. His season was mostly pants to say the very least. Still, with an average (being kind) car he drove superbly and looked on course to give Arrows their first ever win until the car lost power (gearbox I think) on the last lap. Hill, most likely out of pure desperation made it difficult for Villeneuve to pass (Villeneuve had to take to the grass) but only succeded in delaying the inevetable. Hill limped home in second place.
For me, this race helped to define Hill as a great driver. Not the greatest driver in F1 history, but certainly a very good one worthy of respect. |

Why is it that we build our sports stars up only to knock them back down again??
Beckham, Flintoff, Gazza, George Best, Lewis Hamilton, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill to name some of the recent names who have had this!!

1.Eddie Irvine - He was great. He stood up to the world champion Hakkonen for a dog fight when MS was injured. He could have been the #1 driver for Ferrari but got screwed over.
2. Rubens Barrichelo - Amazing driver, could win any race with a good car, but got completely screwed up by the Ferrari manager.
3. David Coulthard - A great support to Hakkonen, very poised and calm. However, couldn't handle the pressure of being the #1 after Hakkonen retired.
4. Jaques Villeneuve - Was the second to Damon Hill (how is that possible, what a shame) on Williams. He then had problem with the Williams team. Too bad, what a waste of talent.
5. J.P. Montoya - Great driver, and looked like a future legend, but for some reason, just never quite get there. I like his style though.
6. jean Alesi - Very good driver, but always got stuck with a team that had mechanical problems with their cars...
Who else?
Not to be rude PolarCeltic, but Alain Prost is a Legend and he had records to go with it. By the way, I do like Panis, Heifield, and Fisichella as well. They did some very good things with non-top rank cars. What about Frentzen?
Sorry PolarCeltic, I noticed my mistake, but for some reason I couldn't edit the question after I posted it. My bad.
Anyhow, I do agree with someone who mentioned Ralf as well. Too bad for the former f3 Champion to live under his brother's shadow forever.
By the way, everyone has been making very good points here. It will be hard for me to give out the best answer....
Mansell was an incredible driver. He was getting tougher and tougher towards the retirement.
Mika Hakkonen is a legend to me. His career ended too early due to family issue, which was understandable. He was also one driver that pushes Schumi/Irvine Combo to the edge along with Coulthard. |

Here is my top 5:
1) Damon Hill (very underrated. He still remains the last Brit to win the WC in 96).
2) Alonso - Don't like the guy after the Mclaren fiasco lat year. But awesome driver, and in a way I think Mclaren have lost out by failing to manage the relationship. His technical knowledge of the car gave them an advantage, which is something they are now missing in Lewis&Heikki.
3) Hakkinen - Awesome driver, like most Finns. Double World Champion - nuff said.
4) Mansell - a real racing driver. The match of Senna, and the only driver that refused to be intimidated by Senna's bullying and aggressive driving tactics.
5) Grudgingly I'll acknowledge in last place - Schumacher. Arrogant, overrated, often buckled under pressure, and master of illegal driving; e.g. vs. Damon Hill last race of the 94 season to prevent him from winning, or driving into the barriers to block the track in qualifying to protect his time. (Monaco 2006). But I guess he could also race a bit.
No place yet for Lewis only because he is not yet a WC. But he will be, no doubt about that. Has the talent and ability of all these guys for sure. |

I love F1 so much. I have been watching it since 1995 when I was 8 and haven't missed a GP since. I even have all the old F1 reviews from 1981-2008 on VHS/DVD in my room. When I was at school me and my friends used to pretend we were all driving racing cars! I really miss characters like Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Damon Hill. I get goosebumps when I think of 'The Chain'. I watch old F1 races on YouTube. I get up at 3am to watch the Japanese, Australian races :-)
I'm such a F1 maniac I can literally tell you off the top of my head who won which race and championship. Like who won the 1988 German GP (Ayrton Senna).
How much do you love F1.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlQ9wEP8pUg - Murray Walker Tribute Song!
TONY R: That would be Senna at the 1993 European GP at Donnington of course, making Prost and Hill look like fools in their dominant Williams FW15Cs :-)
Yes Conor, that was the Belgium GP 2000 when Hakkinen managed to do that amazing pass on Schumacher on the run down to Les Combes overtaking Zonta in the process as well. One of the best overtaking manouevers I have ever seen. |

Don't you think they have got really boring and similar? I remember you used to be able to tell a driver by his helmet... and there were some classic designs...
Damon Hill - used his father's design, London Rowing Club, iconic image
Nelson Piquet - original and unique to him with the teardrop..
Ayrton Senna - he chose his yellow helmet to reflect his Brazilian nationality, and to warn drivers when they looked in their mirrors that Senna was coming!
Rubens Barrichello - bright and unmistakeably him
David Coulthard - brilliant take on the Scottish flag
Now they are just boring, especially Kovalainen and Raikkonen, who seemed to chose their latest ones on how well it merges into the car... if they both drove for the same team you would not tell them apart!! I like Nelson Piquet Jr's because its based on his dads, as is Nakajima's, I like Lewis modelling his on Senna's too.. but mostly they are fairly unremarkable
Comments?? and suggestions as to your favourite driver helmets...
Redsnookerball... I agree that Schumi changing his helmet to Ferrari red was the beginning of the style we have now... and I didn't like it one bit...
At least the likes of Lewis and Timo have distinctive designs still... out of the younger drivers these are the only proper ones... |

Don't get me wrong, I think Jenson Button deserved to win the Formula One World Championship. But I've been hearing from a lot of people that he can now be compared to other great British F1 champions like Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Lewis Hamilton. I also think that there are better drivers than Button even in the current F1 with the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso who for me are better drivers. Also don't forget that he's been in F1 for quite some time and he hasn't exactly shined.
Also not many people are mentioning Ross Brawn and his technical staff who've played a massive part in the success of both Rubens Barichello and Jenson Button this season. Credit should be given to Brawn and his team who I reckon contributed about 55-60% and the rest was down to Button who had such an organised team that it was put on the plate for him. If it wasn't for the Brawn's technical staff Button would have struggled to have even challenge for the title.
I still think that he deserved to win over the season but more credit should go to Ross Brawn and his team. May be I'm being too harsh on Button but what do you reckon? |

These clips were not captured by me! These are just a few clips i found here and there of Damon combined with some atmospheric Coldplay music. It's not great, some of the sound levels arent perfect. Ive tried to sum up some of Damon's highs and lows in his Williams days and the moment when he finally and deservedly became Champion. |
