Gere is calling for a boycott of the Beijing olympics to protest China's treatment of it's own people. I agree that this has to end but maybe we should all boycott our cesspool of an entertainment industry huh? Maybe we should boycott douchebags like Gere making $20 million to read a lame script some other wanker wrote! Hollywood types are all hypocrites. Maybe Gere should donate 95% of his wealth for his cause huh? Gere just wants the people of china to be treated better so they can make more money to spend on his predictable already done lame sorry movies!
Just like poor Owen Wilson. . .waaah.. .waaah. . waaahhh. Just another self serving pompous overated undertalented loser. Drug addict woman using piece of garbage. Crying out for attention like a little girl. Hey Owen. . . be a man next time and use a gun you wuss!!! Guess what Owen. . just like river phoenix, curt cobain and countless other losers like yourself. . . you could disappear tomorrow and the world wouldn't skip a beat!!! LET'S ALL BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD!!!! |

I saw a movie years ago with Richard Gere. There was a verbally graphic scene, where Richard Gere's character made comments to who I thought was Andy Garcia's character. Gere made comments about the different type of sex women of various ethnicities liked (e.g., Russian women like "A" because "B" and Italian women liked "C" because "D".
I thought the movie was "Internal Affairs", but did not see the scene when I recently played a rented DVD. Was this scene later removed after the initial VHS video release?
It seemed like a typical Gere scene...it was great!
If it is "Internal Affairs", how can I determine if the desired scene is on it prior to renting/buying it? Does the latest DVD have this classic deleted scene?
It scarred me quite a bit in my younger...prude years.

Richard Gere in Hot Water
Posted Apr 17th 2007 10:19AM by Stephanie N., Attending Videologist
Filed under: Celebrity
Hindu nationalists are not happy with Richard Gere -- while campaigning for AIDS awareness in New Delhi (where public displays of affection are taboo) alongside Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, Gere was a tad overly affectionate with the actress ... kissing her hand, then hugging, then kissing the shocked actress on the cheek. The incident has since sparked fierce outcry in India -- with protesters burning effigies of the actor, and some going so far as to call for his death.
Shetty has since held a press conference to defend Gere -- saying it was a sweet gesture, and merely something he was imitating from one of his movies.
What do you think of Gere's behavior? Was he just trying to entertain the crowd -- or did he cross cultural boundaries and disrespect India's traditions? Maybe in his old age, he got confused and thought he was on the 'Pretty Woman' set. |

Unfaithful
The touch of each key
musical notes so heavy
on my mind and heart
notes fade
new ones take over
the memory of touch
never disappears
Continue to slide
white to black
each motion, so wrong
You stare, I try to keep
a smile on my face
while music-sheets consume my mind
I try and try
this Ying-yang life
I personally loved it
any critique welcome :) |

There have been widespread protests over Richard Gere kissing Shipa Shetty on stage in the name of AIDS awareness.
If Richard really loves India he should have been sensitive to our sensibilities.
Why are the forces of heterosexualisation bent upon heterosexualising India in the name of gender rights, AIDS awareness and what not?
Let me ask you how would have the Americans taken it had two Indian men hugged and kissed each other on stage on a mainstream show?
Elizabeth Howard, Indians are neither gay nor heterosexual.........we're just men and we're just sexual. There is no gay/hetero division. That's a stupid western notion.
But we do think that men who are too cozy with women, especially in public are a bit wimpy....... and that it is natural and normal for men to be physically intimate with each other even in public.........
Heterosexualising means to force a 'manhood' that says you have to be emotionally and socially intimate with women, which is basically not a man's thing.
Eliza, just like two men together are considered 'homo' in your society, a woman who displays intimacy in public with a man is considered a 'whore' in ours. Fair enough I think!
This answer would have clrd ur views abut Indian men.
We are not heteros or homos. We're just men, and we are open to intimacy with both sexes but everything has a place. We don't need a heterosexual identity or society. And we cherish our men's only personal spaces without the intrusion of women.
Male-female intiamcy has been given extraordinary powers through marriage and making it a basis for manhood. This power needs to be reigned in or like in the west it will drive out all other forms of human intimacy from the mainstream, and isolate men by breaking men from men.
bobobrow, two women kissing is celebrated in the west, and guys are supposed to relish it. But public intimacy between guys is not tolerated. Look how much fuss the kissing scene in Alexander generated.
Thanx Bill ur ans. is 'best' as well |

I'm not gay, but I'll admit that I know a good looking bloke when I see one. What I can't understand though, is why so many women have a crush on Richard Gere, what's the attraction? |

If it religious, then it's wrong and evil to show affection in public for someone, and rightous and good to burn and image or figure be very angry with anyone who doesn't agree with every custom your country has? |

I just got both and don't know which one to watch first. i heard that both were pretty scary - which is something I usually don't go for - but they both have Richard Gere, so I decided to give them a shot.
So, give me your opinions! You can give me a reason why you like one or the other also and that would be awesome.
thanks! |

I'm not sure that boycotts work. They tend to backfire but he does have a point. China is a ruthless country with a horrible human rights record that we don´t seem to have any trouble dealing with.

I'm not sure that boycotts work. They tend to backfire but he does have a point. China is a ruthless country with a horrible human rights record that we don´t seem to have any trouble dealing with.

I just got both and don't know which one to watch first. i heard that both were pretty scary - which is something I usually don't go for - but they both have Richard Gere, so I decided to give them a shot.
So, give me your opinions! You can give me a reason why you like one or the other also and that would be awesome.
thanks! |

One of my friends wants me to help them find a certain car. She mentiones Richard Gere drove one in this movie Runaway Bride. What kind of car was it folks? I know the ladies had to have watched this chick flick. But did you pay attention to the brand of the car? |

Serious, what are the indians so madd about? He is 57!!! He is probably impotent. I didnt know white guys still intimidated anyone sexually.
Isnt that with this is about, "evil white man" takes indian princess...He is like her grand pappy, he's got old wrinkly balls, this isnt the richard gere of 10 or 15 years ago...
Are people upset that someone like's a white guy???
THEY SHOULD NOT PROCREATE...Dont worry I am sure Richy's equipment has to many miles on it to do any damage...
So my question, what do you think about that "evil rapist" Richard Gere??? |

OMG richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty on not one but both cheeks on national TV.
Now various factions are setting fire to Shilpa images and burning and beating effigies of Richard.
This is a prime example of how world peace can never be actieved ,when outdated beliefs from any religion are condoned to the extreme ,thank goodness shilpa did'nt show her ankle lol....we'd all be going to war!!!!!
I'm sorry but It needs to be said..... get real India and start sorting out real issues with your country and stop being petty. |

You people should be grateful that he likes your women, BUT instead you want to prosecute him!!!
Indian society should feel honored that Richard Gere he even likes indian women.
Personally, I don't even know what Richard Gere even sees in indian women.
So, my question is this:
What is wrong with you people?? |

I recently recorded an 80's era movie, Breathless, starring Richard Gere and some French actress that I've never heard of. I didn't especially care for the movie but it was ok enough. I continued to watching it just because I had recorded it. And so, I was disappointed when it ended up that I missed getting the very final minutes.
At the end, Richard Gere is surrounded by police, and his French girlfriend is pleading with him to not pick up a gun that was accidentally dropped by one of the police officers. I'm not sure if she's afraid of him shooting himself, or afraid that he will be shot by the police, when he attempts to pick it up. What happens? By the way, Richard Gere is great in the movie even though I wasn't that impressed movie. I've never realized how talented & diverse he is, till seeing him in that film. |

I swear you American white men come to every country and expect people to follow your rules. Then if we speak English in an accent you get all psycho...telling us to leave. A typical white American male, Richard Gere, comes to India and starts raping our Hindu Indian actress.....dont like India, dont come...end of the question...you come to India...you follow our rules...dont like it..get out...white american men must have their head stuck in their azz, thats why all the blood flows to the southern reigion and not your brain,,you idiots...never trust white trash |

Richard Gere & Julia Roberts were paired up in "Pretty Woman" and "Notting Hill"; Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail".
Thanks for pointing out that "Runaway Bride" was the other film Richard Gere and Julia Roberts were paired, and not "Notting Hill".... and yes, "Joe vs the Volcano" starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. |

The guy gave her some playful kisses on the cheek and Indians are protesting and wanting him killed! The people protesting think that Gere was disrespectful to Shetty and to India! This woman is an actress who prades around half naked on the screen acting very sexy and this is not disrespectful! Shetty feels that nothing was done wrong! What is wrong with these people to be so angry over nothing?
mooshie: Shetty did not have any problems with what happend. She is angry that the public is behaving in such a way. If she does not then whay do you and other Indians have a problem with that!
Again! Gere did not give her an affectionate kiss on the lips! I have seen Indian movies and they are filled with all kinds of very sexy dancing and clothing and lovers are shown in all kinds of positions and they lay on top of one another and come very close to the lips and Indians love that! Gere did not kiss her on the lips! To protest and burn and want to kill Gere I do not understand!
Du S: It is not illegal to kiss in India! Threre is no law that says you shall not kiss in public! It is a taboo to kiss someone romantically in public! Go to Bollywood all kinds of lovers are walking holding hand and kissing in the park and I do not see them being arrested!
In the words of Shipa Shetty "He was trying to strike his dance pose from Shall We Dance Movie and he just kind of bent over me and kissed me on the cheek I mean that was it! They kept playing and replaying it on the channel and it really infuriated me! Richard has done so much for our country! Ofcourse people like you have given their thinking power to the media and are lost in the petty things instead of the big picture! |

I'm just curious because everyone seems to think that burning effigies of Richard is overreaction. Do you think that if Shilpa sued him for sexual harassment it would be appropriate or overreaction again? It seems that the kissing was uninvited from the video footage and Shilpa (no matter how much she's trying to cover for Richard now) seemed shocked and unprepared to be accosted in public. I am speculating that the only reason Shilpa did not push him away was because she's hoping for a Hollywood movie role in the future. What would you have done (if you are a girl) and should she sue him for sexual harassment? |

I just got both and don't know which one to watch first. i heard that both were pretty scary - which is something I usually don't go for - but they both have Richard Gere, so I decided to give them a shot.
So, give me your opinions! You can give me a reason why you like one or the other also and that would be awesome.
